Leaving the Broughtons

Tonight is our last stop in The Broughtons. There are many more beautiful anchorages and resorts in these waters than we've had time to visit, but we certainly enjoyed our time here. And we now have a few favorites that we'll definitely visit again, when we make it back to this area, as we would definitely like to do more exploring in The Broughtons.

Cruising this morning from Kwatsi Bay to Lagoon Cove was ~22 nm, with calm waters and sunny skies. Yes, sunny skies. We woke up this morning to find bright blue skies with soft wisps of misty clouds, along the mountains, but the signs of clouds completely disappeared by 7am. Today was definitely a day for shorts and sunglasses.

We arrived in Lagoon Cove (50 35.893N 126 18.854W) ~ noon, shortly after setting a crab trap in a nearby cove. We picked up some fuel at the fuel dock in Lagoon Cove and then tied up to their docks for the night. We stayed here on our way north, and had so much fun, we wanted to make this our last stop in The Broughtons, on our way south. We enjoyed some easy walking trails in the area, caught a couple of good size crabs in our traps, eliminated a bag of burnable trash in the burn bin here at the cove, and had great fun at the happy hour & story telling time. And then, as this will be our last chance to update our blog for awhile I thought I'd better spend a few minutes on the internet.

We've made a few minor changes to our cruise plan, so it looks like our stops for the next week or so will be on anchorages in remote places (no wifi, no shopping, no laundry). Our next step will be Forward Harbor (50 28.673N 125 45.094W) and then we'll spend several days in the Octopus Islands (50 16.340N 125 13.415W), near Quadra Island, and then several days in Desolation Sound. We'll find our way south to Pender Harbor, but I don't believe I'll find internet access until we cross Georgia Strait and arrive in Nanaimo. Essentially, I probably won't be able to post an update to our blog for 10-14 days. But, as of this afternoon we are now back in range of getting a cell phone connection, so we are not totally disconnected from communication!

Here is Brad burning our burnable trash. To clarify, in remote boating areas there isn't any trash pickup. We're actually lucky to find a resort that allows boaters to burn their trash and many will actually charge $4-5/bag. Fortunately Lagoon Cove provides a burn bin that is free to guests on their docks.

This is a little beach, near where we set our crab trap. If you double click the photo to enlarge it, you can see the black bear on the beach.

This is going to be dinner tomorrow night, when we are on anchor. Tonight we had too many shrimp at the happy hour.

A view from our boat, during today's cruise.
