Shawl Bay, The Broughtons

Our cruise from Sullivan Bay to Shawl Bay was 10 nautical miles today and was made under dry skies. Forecast is 100% for rain tomorrow and we are hearing gale winds are forecast to Queen Charlotte Strait, a bit NW of us, and strong winds in Georgia Strait, further SE of us, which should hit later this week. Hopefully the forecast for winds will not impact our plans to begin more serious cruising, more than 10 nm a day, later this week.

Shawl Bay is a cute little resort. We were able to buy a loaf of homemade bread, which made for yummy sandwiches for lunch. We now have a 90' yacht next to us on the docks. If I had a wide angle, for our camera, I'd take a photo of it. Our boat could be a tender for this big guy! We understand the owners are from Seattle and own several parking lots in the downtown area. Looking at their boat it is clear that we missed a step, as toddlers, playing in empty parking lots. Darn, we should have bought those lots years ago.

We heard an interesting story, from a fellow boater on the docks, about an eagle that recently plucked up a little dog on the docks in The Broughtons. The eagle was flying off with the dog when he suddenly dropped the dog in the water. Before the eagle could swoop back to get the dog the owner had come out in their dinghy to retrieve. The lucky dog is fine.

Our current GPS location is 50 50.888N 126 33.598W
